Not only for kitty, catnip makes a delightful tea as well.  Catnip tea with just a bit of honey acts as a gentle soother, and it is perfect for unwinding and relaxing towards sleep.  It is safe enough for use with children, especially cranky, sick ones.

Catnip is in the mint family, and it shows in its effect on an upset tummy.  The chemical in catnip that makes the cats go crazy is nepetalactone, which has antibacterical qualities.  The essential oil of catnip is effective in repelling mosquitos, and in my opinion, smells way nicer than citronella.
